Why develop Community Teams?

Community Teams customize public deliberation to local hope and dreams, needs and challenges. It has been discovered that the most effective Community Teams incorporate nine unique but inter-connected roles in their public deliberation research. When these roles are understood and applied, public deliberation can be customized for increased sensitivity to local needs, increased inclusion of diverse voices and increased focus on the decisions that resolve urgent and important issues. The Community Teams Workshop continues the learning process for the local practice of deliberative decision making by helping Community Teams as they develop a full set of deliberative roles for effective civic engagement.

This workshop will be scheduled and customized for groups with at least eight (8) participants. Contact the NIF faculty at director@nifica.org if you would like to discuss organizing a workshop for your group. California faculty can schedule on-site Community Teams training for organizations and community leaders with the interest in developing deliberative decision making in a local context. Contracts will include a stipend, travel expenses and materials.

If you are an interested individual without contact with a community group, contact us so we can meet your needs with a group in your area or at a future workshop at UC Davis.
